Celebrity fluff. Talking hairdos. News you can't use, from sources you don't trust.
American media is turning into a national entertainment state controlled by a dwindling
handful of media moguls and global corporations.
It has to stop.
When the media falls back on murder and mayhem, rather than investigating the roots of
crime, it does the public a disservice.
When it neglects labor's opinion on issues that affect our work lives, it has silenced a
vital part of society.
When journalists self-censor because they assume a story "will never get published,"
they've violated their commitment to integrity in reporting.
On October 16-19, in the media capital of the world, New York City, over 1100 people convened for the second Media and
Democracy Congress. In order to support public interest journalism and the
independent media, we continue to call on all concerned journalists, producers, activists,
critics and teachers to insist that the media system be held accountable in its
democratic role.
